Contemporary Netsuke: Master Miniatures
An exhibition of contemporary netsuke at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. This event was held January 25th through June 17th, 2007. Please visit our "museum pieces" page to see pictures of the netsuke we loaned to the museum for that exhibition.
In our collection, you will find antique netsuke and ojime that reflect the distinctive design, superb workmanship, and rich subject matter that typify the traditional artistry of Japan. You will also find contemporary netsuke, ojime and related objects of art that embody the classic Japanese esthetic, enhanced by each artist's unique and often innovative interpretation.
The artwork presented on our gallery pages represents only a small sample of our diverse inventory that includes pieces from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Takara Asian Art also maintains the largest collection of 21st century netsuke and ojime outside of Japan. You can see some of the latest contemporary pieces on our gallery pages. For several eminent contemporary netsuke artists, we are the only Western dealers who have recent examples of their work available for purchase.
