About Us

Takara Asian Art was founded by Jeffrey Klotz and Phyllis Lieberman in 1999. Jeffrey started avidly collecting netsuke in 1987 — and he is still a collector at heart. He enjoys sharing his experience, knowledge and passion for the art form with fellow enthusiasts. Jeffrey serves as chairman of the New York chapter of the International Netsuke Society.

Both Jeffrey and Phyllis have presented many lectures about netsuke. Phyllis gave her most recent presentation at her workshop at the International Netsuke Society convention in Miami, Florida in January 2007. Jeffrey gave his most recent presentaton at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City in February 2007. Jeffrey and Phyllis have also written articles for the INS Journal and Daruma magazine. Takara Asian Art is a member of the Netsuke Dealers Association.
